Got a Tip?

Tom Ford’s ‘Nocturnal Animals’ With Jake Gyllenhaal & Amy Adams Lands Oscar Season Release Date

It’s been far too long since fashion-designer-turned-filmmaker Tom Ford‘s debut feature film, 2009’s “A Single Man.” And if you didn’t catch the deeply underrated movie, we’ll be the first to tell you, it’s time to catch up. And lest you think Ford was a dilettante going from fashion to film, you’d be dead wrong. An exquisite piece of filmmaking, the style of the movie is naturally gorgeous, the emotions are moving, the cinematography by Eduard Grau is terrific, and the score by Abel Korzeniowski was criminally overlooked.

Seven years later, Ford is finally back with “Nocturnal Animals” a film based on Austin Wright’s novel “Tony and Susan” centered on an art gallery owner who is haunted by her ex-husband’s novel, a violent thriller she interprets as a veiled threat and a symbolic revenge tale. Ford originally conceived the movie in two parts, one for each character, but eventually was persuaded to just make one film. Still, it will retain the shifting perspective approach.

The cast is top-shelf, with Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal starring as the couple in question, and the movie also includes Michael Shannon, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Isla Fisher, Armie Hammer, Ellie Bamber and Laura Linney. Korzeniowski is writing the score again (yes!) and the director of photography is Seamus McGarvey (“Anna Karenina,” “We Need to Talk About Kevin“) is no slouch.

And now the picture is actually on the way. One of our most anticipated films of 2016, “Nocturnal Animals” has now scored an awards-season friendly November 18th limited release date through Focus Features, and will go wide on December 9th. You can bet Focus has high hopes for this one during Oscar season.
