Teaser For ’13 Reasons Why’ Season 2 Says The Tapes Were Just The Beginning

When Netflix launched the first season of the series “13 Reasons Why,” they didn’t realize the impact that the teen series would have. The series, which follows a teen who figures out, through a series of cassette tapes, why his friend committed suicide, was a huge hit for the streaming service but was soon met with criticism for its portrayal of teen suicide, leading Netflix to put warnings before certain episodes. Now, the controversial series is back for Season 2, and we have the first teaser and release date.

Much like the recent announcement of the second season of “GLOW,” Netflix hasn’t put together a true trailer for the upcoming season of “13 Reasons Why.” Instead, the teaser presents all the main characters, as the viewer swirls around them and the Polaroid pictures that litter the screen. Each picture reveals a hint at what’s to come in the new season. Even without the requisite trailer, breaking down the plot of the season, there’s enough gleaned from the teaser that shows the series is definitely picking up right where season 1 left off.

The series stars Dylan Minnette, Katherine Langford (nominated for a Golden Globe for her role), Christian Navarro, Alisha Boe, and Kate Walsh. “13 Reasons Why” was developed by Brian Yorkey, based on the novel of the same name by author Jay Asher.

“13 Reasons Why” season 2 premieres on Netflix on May 18.

Here’s the synopsis:

Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of Hannah’s death and the start of our characters’ complicated journeys toward healing and recovery. Liberty High prepares to go on trial, but someone will stop at nothing to keep the truth surrounding Hannah’s death concealed. A series of ominous polaroids lead Clay and his classmates to uncover a sickening secret and a conspiracy to cover it up.
