Netflix Announces Release Date For 'GLOW' Season 2 In '80s-Inspired Music Video

Netflix just announced the release date for season 2 of “GLOW” and they couldn’t have done it in a more ‘80s way.

In the video that announces the return of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, the women are dressed as their wrestling characters while they sing and dance along to the classic ‘80s song “Maniac,” which was featured in the film “Flashdance.” All the actresses are back, and right as their about to end the video with an ensemble dance, Marc Maron, who plays sleazy producer Sam Sylvia, breaks up the video.

But the point of the video is clear, the acclaimed series is coming back to Netflix June 29, and we’re pretty excited. The first season saw Allison Brie, Betty Gilpin, Sydelle Noel, Britney Young, and a variety of other actresses become the stars of the low-budget ‘80s wrestling sensation “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling” aka “GLOW.” The series was noticed during awards season, garnering WGA, SAG, and Golden Globe nominations. And as we’ve predicted, the series is a strong contender for Emmy consideration later this year.

Here’s the official synopsis for Season 2:

Season 2 follows the women of GLOW as they become local celebrities, confronting the good, the bad, and the ugly realities of their newfound fame. As Ruth (Alison Brie) and Debbie (Betty Gilpin) settle into the day-to-day of making a season of TV together, they confront lingering issues at the heart of their friendship. Sam (Marc Maron) is still Sam, but now he has a teenage daughter living with him and twenty episodes to churn out. The wrestling is harder, the stakes are higher, and the hair is even bigger.

As mentioned above, “GLOW” returns to the streaming service on Friday, June 29.
