13 TV Shows To Watch In August: ‘Alien: Earth,’ ‘Peacemaker,’ ‘Terminal List’ & More

While not quite as dense as the film release schedule, there are some major television series to look out for this August. Among them are numerous revivals, sequels, and legacy IP, such as new turns in the Marvel and “Alien” universe. Beyond the recognizable names and universes, however, plenty of smaller titles are just as worthwhile to explore.

Netflix in particular has a big month coming up with the return of the immensely popular “Wednesday” series and with the smaller, yet no less interesting, “Long Story Short” from the “Bojack Horseman” creator. From big, broad comedy to millennial favorites and true crime stories, August offers plenty of new and eclectic titles to seek out.

Chief of War
Jason Momoa leads his latest television series with “Chief of War.” Created by Momoa and Thomas Paʻa Sibbett, the series is based on real events, set at the end of the 18th century when the four major kingdoms of the Hawaiian Islands were at war. Momoa plays Ka’iana, a warrior chief who rebels against the unification of Hawai’i. Temuera Morrison, Luciane Buchanan, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Kaina Makua, Moses Goods, Siua Ikaleʻo, Brandon Finn, James Udom, Mainei Kinimaka, and Te Kohe Tuhaka all star.
Release Date: Season 1 premiered on August 1 on Apple TV+.

Eyes of Wakanda
Following the release of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” Marvel is heading back to the television landscape with the animated series, “Eyes of Wakanda.” Created by Todd Harris, the anthology series expands on the Wakanda lore, following Wakanda warriors who carry out dangerous missions throughout history. Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, Larry Herron, Adam Gold, Jacques Colimon, Jona Xiao, Zeke Alton, and Steve Toussaint star.
Release Date: Season 1 premiered on August 1 on Disney+.

“King of the Hill” Season 14
Following in the footsteps of other rebooted series, the popular “King of the Hill” is being revived for a 14th season, just over fifteen years since the last episode. The series, created by co-creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, follows the same family and friends, though the story jumps ahead with Bobby now an adult. Along with Judge reprising his role as Hank Hill, original cast members Kathy Najimy, Stephen Root, Pamela Adlon, Johnny Hardwick, and Lauren Tom all return.
Release Date: Season 14 premieres August 4 on Hulu

“Wednesday” Season 2
Following the latest Netflix trend, the popular Jenna Ortega-ledWednesday” returns for its second season but will be split into two parts. Returning to Nevermore Academy, Wednesday Addams deals with family, friends, and old adversaries for another year of wild adventures. Emmy Myers, Bianca Barclay, Moosa Mostafa, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luiz Guzmán, and more return, along with newcomers like Steve Buscemi, Lady Gaga, Billie Piper, and Haley Joel Osment.
Release Date: Season 2 Part 1 premieres August 6 on Netflix.
