13 TV Shows To Watch In August: ‘Alien: Earth,’ ‘Peacemaker,’ ‘Terminal List’ & More

The Rainmaker” 
Based on the novel of the same name by author John Grisham, Michael Seitzman and Jason Richman adapt the legal drama “The Rainmaker” for television. John Slattery stars in the series, which follows a young lawyer who, after being fired from his white-collar firm, joins up with a small-time ambulance chaser and her paralegal. Milo Callaghan, Madison Iseman, Lana Parilla, P.J. Byrne, Robyn Cara, and Dan Folger star. 
Release Date: Season 1 premieres August 15 in the USA. 

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox
True crime stories continue to be a major draw as the Amanda Knox story is further dramatized in “The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.” Grace Van Patten stars as Knox as the series follows her journey to prove her innocence after being wrongfully imprisoned for her roommate’s murder. Sharon Horgan, John Hoogenakker, Francesco Acquaroli, Giuseppe De Domenico, and Roberta Mattei all star. 
Release Date: Season 1 premieres August 20 on Hulu. 

Long Story Short
For fans of the critically acclaimed Netflix animated series, “Bojack Horseman,” “Long Story Short” is the most anticipated series of August. Bojack creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg returns to the streaming service with another adult animated series. The show follows three siblings throughout their lives, from childhood to adulthood and back again. Lending their voices to the series are Lisa Edelstein, Paul Reiser, Ben Feldman, Abbi Jacobson, Max Greenfield, Angelique Cabral, and Nicole Byer. 
Release Date: Season 1 premieres August 22 on Netflix. 

Peacemaker” 
James Gunn continues his DC reign following the success of “Superman” with the return of his hit series, “Peacemaker.” Season 2 finds the titular character, played by John Cena, trying to figure out his place in life while reckoning with his past misdeeds. Hunted by Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) due to having killed his son in “The Suicide Squad,” Peacemaker makes a trip to a parallel universe. Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick all return. 
Release Date: Season 2 premieres August 22 on HBO. 

Terminal List: Dark Wolf
Based on the 2018 novel by Jack Carr, “The Terminal List: Dark Wolf” shuffles the cast with Taylor Kitsch as Ben Edwards, now taking center stage in this prequel series. Created by Carr and David DiGilio, the series follows Edwards in his journey from the Navy SEALs to the CIA. Chris Pratt reprises his role from “The Terminal List” along with Tom Hopper.
Release Date: Season 1 premieres August 27 on Amazon Prime Video.
