Got a Tip?

‘Roma,’ ‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ & ‘The Americans’ Top 2019 Critics Choice Awards

If you care, the 2019 Critics Choice Awards were handed out tonight. The annual event where the venerable Broadcast Film Critics Association dolled out their honors in order to keep getting those screeners every year and plush interview slots.  And, thankfully for broadcast network the CW, they nominated enough stars in each category that at least some big names showed up.

Oh, and did you know they tell some nominees the night before they haven’t won so they don’t have to show up if they don’t want to?  (Seriously.) They are sort of the equivalent of the MTV Movie & TV Awards, but taken more seriously for some crazy reason.  But please, let’s celebrate the 2019 Critics Choice Awards!

“Roma” took Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Foreign Language Film and Best Director (Alfonso Cuaron).   “The Americans” won Best Drama Series and Matthew Rhys took Best Actor in a Drama Series and Noah Emmerich took Supporting Actor.  “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” won Best Comedy Series and Rachel Brosnahan and Alex Bornstein took the lead and supporting actress honors in the comedy TV series category.

“The Favourite” took two awards including Best Actress in a Comedy (Olivia Colman) and Best Ensemble.  Christian Bale won Best Actor in a Comedy and Best Actor for “Vice.”  Regina King won Supporting Actress for “If Beale Street Could Talk” while Mahershala Ali took the Supporting Actor prize for “Green Book.”  “Crazy Rich Asians” won Best Comedy and “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” took Best Action Movie.

There were two (hilarious) ties this year.  Amy Adams and Patricia Arquette tied for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Made for Television Movie and Glenn Close and Lady Gaga tied for Best Actress in a Motion Picture.
