’21 Bridges’ Trailer: Chadwick Boseman Goes On A Citywide Manhunt For Cop Killers In New Russos-Made Thriller

Though many studios are opting not to share their work at Comic-Con this year, the Russo Brothers, fresh off the box office and cultural behemoth “Avengers: Endgame,” are back rather quickly to pitch audiences on a newly produced project.

21 Bridges” looks like Touchstone made it for a February 2005 release. Gritty, mid-budget adult thrillers centered on the world of law enforcement are virtually a thing of the past, making this Chadwick Boseman-starrer seem like a curious investment for all involved.

The premise seems a bit obvious upfront: the son of a slain cop (Boseman), now a member of the NYPD, tries to find two suspects accused of police murder, shutting down New York City’s bridges in the process in his pursuit. But things aren’t likely as they seem, and it’ll be up to Boseman to figure out what’s what and find the truth.

Longtime television director Brian Kirk (“Game of Thrones,” “The Tudors“) is making his feature debut here, and Joe and Anthony Russo are part of the producing team with Boseman. J.K. Simmons, Stephan James, Sienna Miller, Taylor Kitsch, Morocco Omari and Keith David are also involved.

The newest look gives us more of what we saw with the first look that played with “Endgame” in theaters. It’ll be interesting to see if this film proves Boseman to be a box office drawl, considering he’s now the face of Hollywood’s most notable new film characters in “Black Panther.” That film was a juggernaut and made Boseman a global figure, but will audiences show up to see a movie where he’s just the lead?

No matter what, it’ll be a gamble for the Russos and Boseman camp to see if a film that feels transported from the yesteryear can connect with an audience who might not dig into the plot or feel like they’ve seen this movie before.
