Does “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” need a bit of a boost with a younger demographic? Is the campaign just looking for an overall new dose of awareness or energy? Could be as the new TV 30-second TV spot for the movie that aired last night during “Heroes” features “My Body Is A Cage” by the Arcade Fire (from the album Neon Bible), and man, the usage is super cinematic and pretty sublime, so if it’s an injection of vibrancy they were seeking this certainly fits the bill. The part where the explosion on screen and the crescendo match up is just so damn good.
This is the the second time only that the Montreal orchestral rockers have ever officially licensed their material for this kind of usage, the first time being when they wrote and licensed “Cold Wind” for the HBO show, “Six Feet Under” (NFL one-time airing footage doesn’t count, it’s not within any bands control). We’re told that the Arcade Fire made the exception specifically because the film was the work of ‘Button’ director David Fincher, a modern auteur they admire and they’re still incredibly picky about who the license tracks to (i.e. otherwise they have a “no licensing rule”).
“The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button” is due in theaters December 25. Here’s the coveted contextual video clip that everyone is after.
And PS, here’s the full track list for Disc 2 of the ‘Ben Button’ soundtrack with all the artists involved that is due December 23. Disc 1 is the score music of composer Alexandre Desplat (the music of which you can hear online already – it’s gorgeous). The tracks that are credited to “Benjamin Button” are dialogue excerpt of of Brad Pitt from the film. You can preview the song from the second disc here.
