Even though last year’s “Death on the Nile” wasn’t nearly as much of a box office hit as 2017’s “Murder on the Orient Express,” there’s no denying that quite a lot of people enjoy Kenneth Branagh’s adaptations of Agatha Christie mystery novels. And for the third adaptation, “A Haunting in Venice,” it appears Branagh is trying something a bit different—a horror film.
As seen in the trailer, “A Haunting in Venice” is clearly a horror movie, but with that Agatha Christie mystery element right under the surface. The story finds our dear friend, Hercule Poirot, investigating a new mystery that has stumped one of his respected friends. You see, there’s a medium who has convinced everyone that she can speak with the dead. Considering Poirot is a big skeptic, he makes it his mission to figure out the woman’s scam and expose her. But what if she’s telling the truth?
Joining Branagh in the cast is an ensemble that includes Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Emma Laird, Kelly Reilly, Riccardo Scamarcio, and Michelle Yeoh. Once again, Branagh not only stars in the film, but he also directs. ‘Haunting’ is written by Michael Green.
“A Haunting in Venice” arrives in theaters on September 15. You can watch the trailer below.
