Adam Sandler Loved 'Sonic' So Much He Called Jim Carrey During The Screening

As much as you might dislike his films, especially those that were released post-2000, there’s no way you can hate Adam Sandler as a person. Not only is he a great actor (I mean, just watch “Uncut Gems” for recent proof), but he’s also just living his best life, as the kids say. He gets paid an ungodly amount of money to make movies with his best friends in exotic locales and is able to keep his family close the whole time. If that’s not life goals, I don’t know what is.

So, during a recent Jimmy Kimmel Live interview (via UPROXX), Adam Sandler described the last cinema experience he had before the COVID-19 pandemic, and though he does break the unwritten rules of theater-going, it’s hard to be mad at him.

When asked about what the last movie-going experience was for Sandler, the actor replied, “I saw Jim Carrey’s movie, the ‘Sonic.’ I noticed that people were spread out, there were only a few of us in the theaters and I was laughing very loud. The people behind us were laughing, too. So I think our last big night out: ‘Sonic.’”

But that’s not all. Apparently, Sandler was enjoying himself so much during the video game adaptation, where Carrey plays the evil Dr. Robotnik, that the comedian had to call Jim Carrey during the screening of the film to tell him how much he loved it.

“I called Carrey from the theater,” he said. “I was telling him how funny he was while it was going on. I didn’t know it was going to be the last movie I ever saw at a movie theater.”

It’s great that Sandler had such a great time at the movie theater watching ‘Sonic.’ Maybe he should have stepped out to make the phone call, you know, to be courteous but given the circumstances, good for him. At least he had a great final pre-COVID-19 film experience.

For me, I sat through a critics’ screening of “Bloodshot.” I would have much rather watched ‘Sonic’ with Adam Sandler talking on the phone instead of enduring Vin Diesel’s superhero film, that’s for sure.
