Andre Holland Says He Is Kicking Around Ideas For A Return To 'The Knick'

Andre Holland is moving up with the premiere of his movie “High Flying Bird” on Netflix. The basketball centered flick is the first film where Holland is cast as the leading man, despite a long career already, as well as his first as an executive producer. With the anticipated success of this film, Holland hopes to take his career in a new direction and has big plans on where to go next.

The mark of Holland’s new production company Harper Road Films and his old friendships with Steven Soderbergh and Tarell Alvin McCraney, “High Flying Bird” is already a mile-marker in this man’s career. The American actor first came into public notice after his role in the short-lived Cinemax series “The Knick,” where he met director Soderbergh. It would be a friendship to last a lifetime, as the recent movie shows. Holland also had a secondary role as Kevin in the Academy Winning Film “Moonlight,” where he worked with longtime friend and screenwriter Tarell Alvin McCraney. With Holland’s idea, Soderbergh’s directing, and McCraney’s script, “High Flying Bird” was born, the first movie of Harper Road Films.

When asked about the future by IndieWire, Holland played coy on his directorial aspirations but hinted that there may be a few points in his acting past that he might want to revisit. The actor mentioned “kicking around” a few ideas with some people from “The Knick,” and maybe picking up with another season. For now, the series remains in retirement, but fans of the period drama should be on the look-out, just in case.
