Max Landis Makes His Comeback With New Feminist Film

Screenwriter Max Landis is making his own comeback that no one really asked for. Landis went radio silent after several sexual abuse allegations against him arose on Twitter during that fateful December of 2017. Though no criminal charges were filed, deleting all social media isn’t exactly the actions of an innocent man. For a while, we had a break from Landis’ loud opinions on everything. Now that’s all behind him, apparently, and he’s ready to show the world how pro-women he is with his newest film.

Landis’ new screenplay is a high-flying horror flick entitled “Shadow in the Cloud,” directed by Roseanne Liang (“Do No Harm,” “My Wedding and Other Secrets”). The film will follow military Captain Maude Gardner, played by Chloe Grace Moretz (“Kick-Ass”), and her all-male crew as they transport confidential content on a B-17 Flying Fortress plane. However, the stakes get higher as Gardner must deal with the inappropriate unprofessionalism from her crew, the enemy moves in for an ambush, and a mysterious, supernatural force lurks in the shadows of the plane. Strong, confident female character against leery men? Real subtle.

The screenwriter, the son of famous film director John Landis, is usually known for his C-listed supernatural or horror films like “Bright,” “Victor Frankenstein,” and possibly his only good flick “Chronicle.” Along with “Shadow in the Cloud,” Landis is also penning another supernatural thriller for his return entitled “Deeper,” and it looks like Idris Elba might be taking the lead.

One good thing, though. Netflix isn’t bringing Landis back for the sequel to “Bright” they have in store. Now we only have to wait and see how these new projects shape up.
