Got a Tip?

Andrew Garfield Refuses To Fight In 2 Clips From Mel Gibson’s ‘Hacksaw Ridge’

Had things gone differently, Andrew Garfield might still be slinging webs in Sony‘s “The Amazing Spider-Man” series. While the studio had big plans for the franchise, including spin-off movies and more, they folded up their tent after “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” sat down with Marvel, and decided to reboot the character and property and tie it into the MCU. And Garfield is grateful for the doors that opened once he put the Spidey suit back in the closet.

“To be honest, I would not have been able to work with Mel Gibson and Martin Scorsese if I had done ‘Spider-Man 3,’ ” the actor told Fandango. “I’m incredibly grateful that I get to now go and watch another man play Spider-Man who I think is a fantastic actor in Tom Holland.”

It’s a nice response from Garfield who will now instead focus on the award season, with Gibson’s “Hacksaw Ridge” coming first. And in the scenes below, we get a sense of Doss’ composure and how he served in the field, as he rescues Vince Vaughn from death.

“Hacksaw Ridge” opens on November 4th.
