Yep, as we predicted, the announcement that a deal is closing for Tom Cruise for “Rock Of Ages” has sparked more casting movement around the big screen musical.
Deadline reports that Anne Hathaway is now in talks to star in the film, and her proposed role will find her starring opposite Cruise who is taking on the role of decadent rocker Stacee Jaxx. Hathaway would play an uptight journalist who is planning an exposé on Jaxx only to wind up falling in love with him instead. Isn’t that always the way? Together, they would duet on Foreigner‘s “I Want To Know What Love Is” before heading to the bedroom. Worst. Date. Ever. Whether or not Hathaway lands the role remains to be seen. With production on both “Rock Of Ages” and “The Dark Knight Rises” scheduled to start in May, it will be an issue of scheduling to see if Hathaway can do both.
Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin remain in the mix as well and if they sign on the dotted line, Brand would play Lonnie, who runs the rock club The Bourbon, while Baldwin would play Dennis, the owner of the establishment. And together they would belt out REO Speedwagon‘s “Can’t Fight This Feeling Anymore” which sounds like a viral video waiting to happen.
Big stars and big ’80s tunes? Not our cup of tea really but we suppose there is a car crash curiosity to all of this.
