Is The Weeknd ready to conquer another medium? The popular artist comes to the big screen in the upcoming film “Hurry Up Tomorrow.” This anticipated project sees Abel Tesfaye, better known by his stage name The Weeknd, star as a musician haunted by sleeplessness. Fans got an early preview of ‘Tomorrow’ during last year’s Halloween Horror Nights. The haunted house, “The Weeknd: Nightmare Trilogy,” brought together visuals inspired by his earlier albums “After Hours” and “Dawn FM.” Additional scenes provided a glimpse of what to expect from ‘Tomorrow.’ The artist also released the album “Hurry Up Tomorrow” in January.

Trey Edward Shults directs the forthcoming psychological thriller, writing its screenplay with Tesfaye and Reza Fahim. The filmmaker came to the project after directing an episode of HBO’s “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty” and the 2017 film “It Comes at Night.” ‘Tomorrow’ is not Tesfaye and Fahim’s first time working together; the pair helped to create “The Idol.” This talked-about series saw The Weeknd star as an unscrupulous guru. Tesfaye builds on that experience with a star turn in “Hurry Up Tomorrow.”
Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan round out the film’s cast. Ortega drew raves for her performance as Wednesday Addams in Netflix’s “Wednesday,” further cementing herself as a pop culture icon as Astrid in “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.”
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
A musician plagued by insomnia is pulled into an odyssey with a stranger who begins to unravel the very core of his existence.
Tesfaye, Fahim, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss serve as producers on “Hurry Up Tomorrow.” The film premieres only in theaters on May 16. Watch the new trailer below.
