Got a Tip?

Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller, Harry Styles & More Up For Role Of Elvis In Baz Luhrmann’s Upcoming Biopic

With rock biopics being all the rage right now, it was only a matter of time before someone tackled the life of Elvis Presley yet again. Already covered in numerous films, Elvis isn’t someone that immediately jumps out at you as a subject in desperate need of a biopic. But when you have actor Tom Hanks already signed on and director Baz Luhrmann attached, we’re intrigued. But you still have to find a good Elvis.

According to Deadline, Luhrmann has narrowed down his choices for the lead role, and he’s got quite a list in mind. The group of actors includes Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller, Austin Butler, and Harry Styles. All of which would make for some very interesting versions of Elvis Presley.

The film is said to focus specifically on the relationship between a young Elvis and his legendary manager Colonel Tom Parker, who will be played by Hanks. So, it would appear that Luhrmann is looking for a younger Elvis to occupy the role.

Elgort, of course, is probably best known for his roles in “The Fault in Our Stars” and the recent “Baby Driver.” However, he’s got serious musical chops as a singer in his own right. He’ll also star in Stephen Spielberg’s upcoming remake of “West Side Story.” Teller recently appeared in the Nicolas Winding Refn series “Too Old to Die Young” and will next be seen in “Top Gun: Maverick,” starring opposite Tom Cruise.

While Elgort and Teller are both massive names, the most interesting choices might be Butler and Styles. Butler is set to break out in a big way with a role in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” so he’s definitely the darkhorse choice. Then you have Harry Styles, who is one member of the massive pop group One Direction. But he also has some acting credibility, starring in Christopher Nolan’s recent “Dunkirk.”

The report says that Luhrmann will fill the role in the next week, so we should hear about who is chosen then. Until then, it would appear the filmmaker has a very critical choice on his hands.
