‘Atlas’ Trailer: Jennifer Lopez Must Save Humanity From A.I. In New Sci-Fi Actioner

Jennifer Lopez has had a mixed year so far. Her back-to-back documentaries, “This Is Me… Now: A Love Story” and “The Greatest Love Story Never Told” for Prime Video, seemingly did well enough with critics. But the docs didn’t really help her music career much, and in March of this year, multiple dates on her ‘This Is Me’ concert tour were canceled due to sluggish ticket sales. Still, the performer has one more film in the can for 2024, and it’s a new sci-fi action for Netflix called “Atlas.”

Directed by Brad Peyton, it might be a big epic sci-fi film, but in an interview with EW, Lopez said the film has a heart and soul, and she was brought to tears by the “touching and moving story” at its center. “It’s a story of friendship and learning how to trust, the bond between two beings who connect in disastrous circumstances and teach each other how to be more human,” she said.

Written by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite, “Atlas” centers on a bleak-sounding future, where an A.I. soldier has determined that the only way to end war is to end humanity.

Alongside Lopez, “Altas” also features “Shang Chi” star Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown (“American Fiction”), Gregory James Cohan, Abraham Popoola, Lana Parrilla and Mark Strong.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Atlas Shepherd (Jennifer Lopez), a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence, joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. But when plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from A.I. is to trust it.

Netflix will release “Atlas” on Friday, May 24. Watch the new trailer here.
