Hollywood sure does enjoy a good ol’ fashioned inspirational dog story, huh? Just a couple of weeks ago, we saw “The Art of Racing in the Rain” arrive in theaters, telling the story of a dog’s life with a racecar driver. And now, Mark Wahlberg is going to try his hand at inspiration dog films with the upcoming “Arthur the King.”
Variety is reporting that Wahlberg has signed on to star in “Arthur the King,” which is directed by Baltasar Kormakur. The film is based on the book, “Arthur: The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home,” written by Mikael Lindnord. ‘Arthur’ tells the story of a stray dog that encounters Lindnord while he’s completely a race in Ecuador. After Lindnord threw a meatball to Arthur, the dog followed the man through the jungle on the journey. Eventually, the athlete adopted the dog and brought him home to Sweden.
Wahlberg, of course, will portray Lindnord in the film. The actor is one of the biggest names in Hollywood, with countless projects in development. He’s currently in production on a film called “Infinite,” from director Antoine Fuqua. Last year, Wahlberg released two films, “Mile 22” and “Instant Family.” This year, it’s expected that his latest team-up with director Peter Berg, titled “Wonderland,” will arrive on Netflix.
Kormakur is probably best known for his film “Adrift,” which stars Shailene Woodley. He previously teamed up with Wahlberg on the action film “2 Guns.” He also is the director behind the drama “Everest.”
No word on when we might see “Arthur the King” in theaters, but filming is expected to begin sometime in the first half of 2020.
