Oh, you think your schedule is busy? Well, Ben Wheatley is here to let you know how lazy you really are. Not only has he dropped three features in the past three years — “Down Terrace,” “Kill List” and “Sightseers” — with another one coming in 2013 (“A Field In England“), he also helmed episodes of the Brit show “Ideal,” and contributed a short to “The ABCs Of Death.” And oh yeah, he’s got a handful of projects in the cooker too, with “Freakshift,” “I, Macrobane,” “Two For Hell” and the animated “Mega Evil Motherfuckers” all developing. So you might not think he’d have time to make an American sojourn. You would be wrong.
The filmmaker is teaming with HBO for the thriller series “Silk Road,” which he will write, executive produce and direct. And that’s not all. The producing team on this one is insane, with Laeta Kalogridis (“Avatar,” “Shutter Island“), James Vanderbilt (“Zodiac“) and Bradley J. Fischer (“Black Swan,” “Zodiac,” “Shutter Island”) all lending their skills. Plot details are scarce, but it’s said to be in the vein of “The Prisoner,” the cult 1967 series about a secret agent held prisoner, with his captors trying to unravel his past.
Lord knows where Wheatley will fit this into his schedule, but the man is nothing if not a prolific multitasker, so we don’t expect this to sit idle for too long. [THR]
