'Big Little Lies' Season 2 Aiming To Shoot In 2018

There’s been a lot of back and forth about a potential second season for HBO‘s “Big Little Lies.” The (initially) limited series starring Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgard, Adam Scott, Zoe Kravitz, and Shailene Woodley earned rave reviews and a stack of Emmy awards, and long before the trophies were handed out, the network was considering more. However, while the producers were keen, Kidman said there were “no prospects” of it happening, while director Jean-Marc Vallée was opposed to the idea.

“…this is the perfect ending. There is no way; there’s no reason to make a season two. That was meant to be a one-time deal, and it’s finishing in a way where it’s for the audience to imagine what can happen. If we do a season two, we’ll break that beautiful thing and spoil it,” he said in the spring. “I mean, I’d love to work with Reese [Witherspoon] and Nicole [Kidman] and all these women again but not to make a season two. I loved it. It’s a great show, and I’m so happy and excited to have been the chosen one to do this.”

I tend to agree. “Big Little Lies” had an absolutely perfect ending — not quite a cliffhanger, but a tantalizing wrap-up, as the women who conspired to cover up a murder are under the watch of the police. Well, now we’re going to have some answers as HBO is aiming to film “Big Little Lies” season two next spring.

“We’re kicking around ideas and trying to lasso the talent [and] get the band back together,” writer and executive producer David E. Kelley told TVLine. “It’s just a lot of logistical things. But I’m optimistic because everyone wants to do it. We feel we still have storytelling to do. No decision has been made yet, but we’re hopeful. Where we left it, I felt like it did open the opportunity for a lot more storytelling.”

So, we’ll see, as nothing is official just yet. It should be noted that Vallée has softened his position on making a second season, but let’s hope that if it does go forward, they have a story worth telling.
