'Bliss' Trailer: Owen Wilson & Salma Hayek Question Reality In Mike Cahill's Trippy Sci-Fi Feature

The Matrix” is a story of waking up and seeing the real world for what it is and ignoring the simulation that clouds your mind. In that film series, when offered the chance to wake up and find truth, the choice is clear, though not everyone follows through. A similar choice is offered in the new sci-fi film, “Bliss,” but the choice isn’t nearly as clear. Why wake up and experience the real world when the simulation is actually kind of great?

As seen in the trailer for “Bliss,” the film follows a middle-aged man that keeps having recurring dreams about a mysterious woman that he has never met before. However, when he does come across her at a bar, she opens his eyes to what’s really going on. You see, the world he’s experiencing just a facade that he is jacked into through the technology she has created. And over the course of the film, he has to figure out what’s real, what’s fake, and what’s worth keeping?

The film stars Owen Wilson, Salma Hayek, Madeline Zima, DeRon Horton, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., and Joshua Leonard. “Bliss” is written and directed by Mike Cahill. The filmmaker is no stranger to high-concept cinema as seen in his previous features “I Origins” and “Another Earth.” “Bliss” marks his first film since 2014.
