The final R-rated trailer has been released for Olivia Wilde’s “Booksmart,” a coming-of-age comedy about two over-achieving high school students who decide to cram all the fun they missed while studying into one wild night. With this revelation, they decide to go all out in an attempt to make up for all the fun they missed.

Described as “a coming of age story for a new generation” and a comedy film told from a very modern perspective, this new trailer shows that “Booksmart” will deliver on this promise. If nothing else, the fact that the trailer features two teenage girls talking openly about masturbation demonstrates how Wilde isn’t afraid to shake up the male-dominated genre of raunchy, coming-of-age comedy.

Aside from open conversations about female sexual exploration, the trailer also shows that “Booksmart” will be jam-packed with all sorts of wild antics. Often described as a female “Superbad,” this film looks to be living up to this reputation and potentially even exceeding it. As highlighted in the trailer, “Booksmart” has been receiving a high level of critical acclaim since its debut at SXSW, including its consistent “100% Fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes. For a directorial debut, it looks like Wilde has killed it. To wit, our review, written by Rodrigo Perez, echoes that sentiment: “Wilde crushes her directorial debut with self-assured confidence to the point that you’ll believe filmmaking may be her true calling in life.”

Another reason why “Booksmart” has been such a hit is the on-screen chemistry between Dever and Feldstein, which can be seen even from the trailer. As a confidently directed comedy starring two talented leading actresses and a seemingly endless supply of rowdiness, “Booksmart” is destined to be a summer hit.
With a release date of May 24, this will be a perfect movie for many high school students to celebrate their graduation. Don’t miss it.
