Brad Pitt & Javier Bardem Join Ridley Scott's 'The Counselor'; Angelina Jolie Eyeing Female Lead

Brad PittMichael Fassbender, Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem are going to be in the same movie. Day-um.

Deadline reports that Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem have signed on for Ridley Scott's "The Counselor" penned by Cormac McCarthy after being rumored for roles over the past few weeks. The story follows an attorney (Fassbender), who is in search of a big payday after he proposes to his girlfriend, Laura. So he hooks up with Reiner, an acquaintance with deep criminal ties, for a new business proposition: they'll take $20 million worth of cocaine from south of the border and offload it themselves, aided by the no-good Westray. As you might imagine, things do not go well for anyone involved.

While the site doesn't clarify, we presume this means Pitt will be taking the role of Westray as reported earlier, while Bardem is likely taking the part of Reiner (a part Jeremy Renner was also eyeing). And as for Angelina Jolie, reported to be circling a role yesterday? Looks like it's not a small role at all, as Deadline reveals she's looking at the female lead, Malkina. As we described in our script overview, she's a sexually-charged femme fatale who is linked to Reiner, although she doesn't seem to show any particular affection towards him. The character is written as having an Argentinian background, we're guessing that will be jettisoned. We presume it's just a matter of time before her casting is official.

Either way, this is a helluva goddamn cast no matter how you slice it. Fox is said to be dealing for the rights, and they'd be foolish not to snap it up and put their power behind this thing. Filming kicks off in June.
