Brie Larson Teases "Future" Captain Marvel Appearances But Plays Coy About 'Avengers' Films

With San Diego Comic-Con just over, there’s quite a bit of excitement about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And even though “The Marvels” didn’t do amazingly well at the box office, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel is seemingly a big piece of the MCU’s future. However, she’s not really at liberty to discuss said future.

During an interview with The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast, where she’s talking about her acclaimed limited series, “Lessons in Chemistry,” Brie Larson did drop some Marvel nuggets. It was great timing, as it came on the heels of a big weekend for Marvel Studios due to its Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con. While Larson wasn’t on stage to promote anything new, she did admit that she was just as shocked to learn about Robert Downey, Jr.’s return as the fans, and she didn’t know it was happening until he came out on stage.

“I want to be clear. I was just with Kevin [Feige]. It was like that same day,” she explained. “And he was like, ‘Oh yeah, we’re doing a thing at Comic-Con.’ He did not say that at all! Not at all!”

The actor was a bit more forthcoming when it came to talking about her own work in the MCU and the future of her Captain Marvel character. Larson was asked about the future and whether or not she believes the team of characters seen in “The Marvels” could come back together for a future project.

“I just loved being with those ladies so much,” said Larson. “And I think that the sentiment of it is so right to me and is much more where I’m at in my life, which is, there’s no one superhero that can save us. It takes all kinds of people that have their own special skill sets and the ability to understand that the brink of disaster cannot be stopped by one. It’s all of us coming together. So that feels really right to me. And you know, as for the future, there’s things that I know, but I can’t tell you.”

When she was asked, specifically, if the things she can’t tell us involves the new ‘Avengers’ films, ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars,’ Larson played coy.

“I can’t say anything and I can’t even say that I don’t know anything because that might mean that there’s something to say or not say,” she said. “So I’ll just say that I can’t say.”

Let’s be honest—Brie Larson will be showing up in one or both of the upcoming ‘Avengers’ films. It doesn’t take a Tony Stark-level genius to speculate about that. Even though she was fairly new during the ‘Endgame’ era, Captain Marvel factored into the film in a fairly big way. So, you have to assume she’s going to play a bigger role as an elder statesman in the MCU right now.

But until that’s confirmed, we have nothing but her own words to go by. And in the meantime you can watch “Lessons in Chemistry” on Apple TV+.
