Marvel Announces ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Cast: Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Kelsey Grammer As Beast & Dozens More

Six years after “Avengers: Endgame” hit theaters, Marvel Studios has announced that their latest Avengers movie, “Avengers: Doomsday” has gone into production. To be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo from a script by Stephen McFeely, the studio also revealed the principal cast, which brings new and old heroes into the fold.

Those names joining Robert Downey Jr. (back as a Doctor Doom Multiverse variant) revealed on a live stream announcement from Marvel’s social media account included Chris Hemsworth as Thor Odinson, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, Letitia Wright as Shuri/Black Panther, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Tenoch Huerta Mejia as Namor, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova/The Black Widow, Kelsey Grammar as Beast (as seen in “The Marvels” post-credit), Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Danny Ramirez as Joquin Torres/The Falcon, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/ Red Guardian, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, Channing Tatum as Gambit, and Pedro Pascal as Dr. Reed Richards.

Initially, the fifth “Avengers” installment was going to be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton following his filmmaking work on “Shang-Chi & The Legend of The Ten Rings” and titled “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.” But after Kang actor Jonathan Majors fell into legal trouble with a domestic violence case, Marvel pivoted villains from Kang The Conqueror to a version of Doctor Doom. Cretton has since moved over to direct “Spider-Man 4” for Marvel and Sony, which is said to be shooting in proximity to ‘Doomsday’ in London.

Both “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” are expected to continue the exploration of the Multiverse, after being mainly introduced in things like the “Loki” series along with billion-dollar features like “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and the R-rated mutant-focused film “Deadpool & Wolverine.

The bar for these next two movies couldn’t have been set higher by The Russos with their previous MCU landmark films and all the fan wish fulfillment expected via the Multiverse angle. Their return, along with RDJ, has led to some mixed feelings after a couple of critical flops at Netflix, including their recent robot adventure film “The Electric State.”
