Cannes 2024: New Films From Yorgos Lanthimos, Frances Ford Coppola & Andrea Arnold

Thanks to early official announcements a number of the movies debuting at this year’s 77th edition of the Festival de Cannes are already known. And Frances Ford Coppola leaked himself that his latest opus, “Megalopolis” will screen in competition. This morning, Thierry Frémaux, General Delegate and Iris Knobloch, President of the Festival de Cannes, announced the rest of the lineup and it features a stellar lineup including new films from Andrea Arnold, Yorgos Lanthimos, Leos Carax, Sean Baker, Paul Schrader, Paolo Sorrentino, Jacques Audiard, and David Cronenberg.

Fresh off the global success of “Barbie,” Greta Gerwig is this year’s competition jury president. The rest of the competition jury will be revealed in the weeks to come. Moreover, Xavier Dolan is the jury president for Un Certain Regard, Lukas Dhont is the jury president for the Queer Palm, and Rodrigo Sorogoyen is the jury president for Critics’s Week.

The festival recently announced that George Lucas will receive an honorary Palm d’Or. It also revealed a new Immersive Competition for works that move beyond the two-dimensional screen.
