A month on from its first trailer, we’re still not quite sure about Marvel‘s Phase Two offering, “Thor: The Dark World.” Alongside “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” as a sequel that seems more logical than necessary, the new installment from “Game of Thrones” helmer Alan Taylor looks enjoyable enough. But with the film’s most recent turn of events parting ways with one of its most notable collaborators, consider us just a tiny bit disappointed moving forward.
Deadline reports that even after his name was printed on the film’s recently-released poster, award-winning composer Carter Burwell has left the “Thor” sequel’s production in what Marvel’s camp calls a creative split. No exact details were cited by the longtime Coen Brothers composer — for whom this latest gig would mark as his first superhero project — but with the film’s release date nearing near the end of 2013, expect Marvel to move quick on finding a replacement.
Perhaps Patrick Doyle, who composed the original film, will be wooed into delivering another score for the sequel; Burwell, meanwhile being as in-demand talent as one might expect, isn’t slowing down to mope — he’s already set to score Bill Condon‘s WikiLeaks pic starring Benedict Cumberbatch, “The Fifth Estate,” as well as Charlie Kaufman‘s animated film, “Anomalisa.”
We’ll soon see how the final soundtrack plays, as “Thor: The Dark World,” starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Christopher Eccleston, hits theatres on November 8, 2013.
