It’s been multiple years since it was revealed that Matt Reeves was selected to write and direct a new ‘Batman’ film for Warner Bros. And it’s been over a year since it was announced that Robert Pattinson would suit up as the Caped Crusader. Unfortunately, it’s going to be more than a year until fans will finally see what the cast and crew of “The Batman” have been working on over that time. But at least we have actor Colin Farrell to keep the teasing going.
Farrell is joining Pattinson in the cast of “The Batman,” portraying the villain known as Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin. And speaking to SFX Magazine (via Metro), Farrell opened up about “The Batman” and what he thinks separates the vision that Reeves brings to the film from previous incarnations of the Dark Knight.
“I have been watching the ‘Batman’ films with my kids, but this script is something that feels incredibly original,” revealed Farrell. “It leans into it but it doesn’t borrow; it’s born of the mythology of that character, Bruce Wayne, Batman and Gotham. But it feels like a treatment and a version that I hadn’t seen before.”
He added, “Matt Reeves has done an incredible job of keeping it familiar and at the same time unique and new. It’s really exciting to be a part of it.”
Of course, the production of Reeves’ superhero film was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it’s expected to restart soon enough so that the film can make its brand-new release date of October 1, 2021.
