Deadline reports that Colin Firth has been cast in a film adaptation of the popular webcomic and anime series “Zombie Brother” created by Jia Haibo. “New York Will Eat You Alive” will be directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson, who directed the very underrated horror-comedy “The Final Girls.” Channing Tatum is producing the film based on a script by Alex Rubens, Dan Gregor, and Doug Mand. The film will come from STXfilms and Tencent Pictures.
The original webcomic tells the story of a town where the water supply gets poisoned by an ancient coffin, turning all who drink it into zombies. It follows a young man named Bai Xiaofei, who loves video games and will have to face his fears and overwhelming hardships as he tries to fight the undead while trying to find the source of the mutation, and also a girlfriend.
Regarding Firth’s casting, Adam Fogelson, Chairman of the STXfilms Motion Picture Group said, “We always wanted to cast this in a way that would give life to the source material and elevate the action and you can’t achieve that goal any better than hiring Colin Firth. From ‘The King’s Speech‘ to ‘Kingsman’, Colin always gives an Oscar-caliber performance. We’re thrilled to be reuniting with him on ‘New York Will Eat You Alive’ in a role that will allow him to have fun while showcasing his deadpan humor and comic timing.”
