'The Northman': Anya Taylor-Joy And Nicole Kidman Tease Terrifying Film The World "Genuinely Hasn't Seen Before"

Robert Eggers burst onto the scene five years ago with “The Witch,” a slow-burn horror film the likes of which most audiences hadn’t seen before, which launched the career of Anya Taylor-Joy. Now, the actress is reuniting with Eggers for his Viking revenge movie “The Northman,” which is on track to be as unique (or bizarre) as the many scenes of Willem Dafoe farting in “The Lighthouse.”

Speaking with Collider about her role in “The Queen’s Gambit,” Taylor-Joy teased Eggers’ upcoming movie, and said it will be something the world “genuinely hasn’t seen before.”

Of course, she couldn’t get into any specifics, but Taylor-Joy does build anticipation for “The Northman” in the interview and her new collaboration with Eggers. “Getting the opportunity to create art together again is amazing,” the actress said. “We have both grown so much apart and now we get to grow back together. I am so proud to be a part of this project. Every moment on set I am proud. I think we will be presenting to the world something it genuinely hasn’t seen before. I just feel so humbled I get to be a part of it.”

It wouldn’t be a Robert Eggers movie without laser-sharp attention to period accuracy and making his actors go through hell to achieve greatness on the screen. After having Robert Pattinson act through extreme weather in “The Lighthouse,” we can expect “The Northman” to have similar attention to detail, to which Taylor-Joy teased, “It’s Robert Eggers! People showed up the first day of set and I was like, ‘You’re going to be cold, you’re never going to be comfortable, but it’s going to be amazing. That’s just the way it is.'”

Joining the already pretty impressive cast of the film is Oscar winner Nicole Kidman, who talked to Collider in a separate interview about she’s preparing to join the production this month. “I’m pretty terrified right now,” Kidman said. “I sound calm but you shouldn’t see what’s going on inside.”
