New Teaser Confirms Netflix's 'Cowboy Bebop' Is Actually Happening & Will Feature An Adorable, Hyper-Intelligent Dog

After years of on-again, off-again development, the world is officially not going to see a live-action “Cowboy Bebop” film from Hollywood. Instead, we’re getting a full-on, big-budget TV series from Netflix. So, that’s awesome, right? And honestly, after all this teasing of a potential live-action ‘Bebop,’ it’s pretty incredible that we finally got confirmation that filming is taking place and the series will indeed arrive on our screens soon enough.

While Netflix doesn’t quite have enough footage to bring us a teaser for the series, instead the studio decided that the next best thing is to introduce everyone to the cast of the anime adaptation. And yes, that includes hyper-intelligent, genetically-engineered dog, Ein.

As seen in the behind-the-scenes teaser for “Cowboy Bebop,” filming has begun, with the various members of the cast gathered to bring the story to life. And all this is shown through the eyes of the smallest, but perhaps smartest member of the ragtag group of bounty hunters, the corgi Ein. However, it appears that Netflix has decided to use a real dog, and go against the current trend of digital-everything made famous by Disney’sThe Lion King.” But damn if real Ein isn’t freaking adorable.

The rest of the cast ain’t half-bad either, as the series is set to star John Cho, Daniella Pineda, Mustafa Shakir, and Alex Hassell. As mentioned, the series follows a group of bounty hunters as they venture through space getting into all sorts of hijinks and adventures. “Cowboy Bebop” is based on the acclaimed anime series of the same name, which has already spawned countless other iterations in other entertainment mediums.

“Cowboy Bebop” is written by Christopher Yost, who has worked on Marvel animated series and films including “Thor: The Dark World” and “Thor: Ragnarok.”

No release date has been set for “Cowboy Bebop,” but considering the filming just begun, we’re thinking a late-2020 date is likely. If you think that’s still far away, consider the relative wait time compared to the years that fans have waited previously. Another year isn’t terrible to ask.

Here’s the synopsis for the series:

A ragtag crew of bounty hunters chases down the galaxy’s most dangerous criminals. They’ll save the world … for the right price. A live-action series.
