‘Crystal Lake’ First-Look Teaser Trailer: A24 & Peacock’s ‘Friday The 13th’ Prequel Series Starring Linda Cardellini Arrives October 15

It seems to be a day focused on horror projects after recent word that Paramount is behind a new “Nightmare On Elm Street” feature film. The first-look teaser trailer for the new slasher streaming series “Crystal Lake” has made its way online. The project being released by Peacock after being made by A24, it is a prequel of sorts focusing on Pamela Voorhees (mother of Jason Voorhees played by Linda Cardellini in this new show iteration), the original killer from the 1980 film that featured a young Kevin Bacon as one of the young camp staff being bumped off by the mother of a camper, who drowned due to neglect.

This new version sees Camp Crystal Lake more active than we’re used to, deep in the summer camp season. Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane (“IT: Welcome to Derry”) is behind this new take on the lore and explains their aim with the show by focusing on Pamela’s perspective. “We wanted to dive into Pam’s psychology. We wanted to see her unraveling after [watching] the events of the movie that everybody knows. We wanted to see her relationship with Jason and what his death kicks off in her – her trying to find some sort of equilibrium in her life after the thing that ostensibly she lives for, her son, was taken away from her, and how all the people around her and the circumstances surrounding her make that impossible to do. So it’s really a character piece.”

“I was one of the only girls who really loved scary movies when I was younger, and girls were not as much into it,” Cardellini recalled in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, profiling the new horror series. “So it would scare everybody, and they would have a hard time sleeping, but it was really fun…I just gravitated towards other things, probably, at the time, and then those people gravitated towards me. Then as time went on, those roles started coming to me, and they were these large, juicy, crazy, fun things to play.”

While we already know that Cardellini will portray Pamela, mother to a young Jason Voorhees (played by Callum Vinson), other cast members will include William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. What we do know is that after the death of her son, Pamela goes on a violent rampage of revenge against the Crystal Lake staff. We’re curious if her kills will be just as inventive as the feature films (the main draw to the franchise from horror fans).

Horror fans will be aware that “Freddy vs. Jason” from 2003 ended up finally doing a big crossover as the two supernatural slasher franchises (“Friday the 13th” eventually had Jason portrayed as an undead killing machine in the sequels, and Freddy Krueger has always been a ghostly figure killing in dreams).

This won’t be A24’s only entry into the world of horror television, as JT Mollner (“Strange Darling,” “Skeletons”) and Glen Powell were recently recruited to handle a small-screen version of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” Anyways, you can check out the teaser for “Crystal Lake” below, as the streaming is set to debut on Peacock starting on October 15, 2026.
