Dan Aykroyd Reassures Fans Of Harold Ramis’ Portrayal In ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ & Points To More Sequels

Ghostbusters: Afterlife” was one of the many studio blockbusters whose release date was delayed due to the shuttering of theaters in late March. Despite its untimely postponement, fans are still eagerly awaiting the arrival of ‘Afterlife,’ as it follows in direct continuity to Ivan Reitman’s “Ghostbusters” (1984) and “Ghostbusters II” (1989) and overlooks the poorly-received “Ghostbusters” of 2016.

As such, ‘Afterlife will feature members of the original cast, including Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and Dan Aykroyd. Missing here is Harold Ramis, who unfortunately passed away in 2014. In a recent conversation with EW, Dan Aykroyd touches on Ramis’s presence in ‘Afterlife.’

“To have that formation without that man standing right there on the line with us was a pretty serious adjustment… He will be very well represented in the new film, I can tell you that. He’s very honorably represented.”

Later in the conversation, Aykroyd continued to explain the role “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” will play for a new generation of fans, as he applauds the care for the material that director Jason Reitman (the son of Ivan Reitman) brought to the table.

“He’s passing the DNA of the first two movies directly to the new generation… It’s just a lot of fun to see these terrific young actors slinging the old Cadillac around and having the equipment in their hands. The story that develops from that is scary and funny and heartfelt and also funny. And it feeds into the possibility of more follow-ups with this group and with others who want to join.”

Originally slated for July 10th this year, Sony Pictures decided to push “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” into the following year which is now starting to look like the smartest decision of all the studios thus far. ‘Afterlife’ is now expected to hit theaters on March 5, 2021.
