Got a Tip?

‘Deadpool 2’ Director David Leitch Has “Crazy Ideas” About The Character Merging With The MCU But Is Awaiting Marvel’s Call

It’s expected that this year’s San Diego Comic-Con is going to be dominated by Marvel Studios. In what seems like a perfect storm of luck and planning, Kevin Feige and company basically have the entire event to themselves, as several other major studios, including Warner Bros., are sitting it out. And with that, there’s also the rumors that Marvel Studios is set to announce at least part of the film slate that will kick off in 2020. But it’s unlikely that any of the announcements have to do with the future of “Deadpool.”

Considering Disney recently finalized the purchase of Fox and its entire library, including the big screen licenses for ‘X-Men’ characters like Deadpool, it was assumed that we’d hear pretty quickly about when the Ryan Reynolds character would show up again. However, it’s been all quiet on the Marvel front, with no one talking about Deadpool’s future. Hell, apparently the director of the last film, David Leitch, doesn’t even know what’s going on.

“In everybody’s world, everybody wants to make it,” Leitch said (via Comicbook.com). “So, if I was ever approached to make ‘Deadpool 3,’ my answer would be, ‘Hell yes,’ but I think there’s a lot of things going on in the shake-up with Fox and Disney and where that whole Marvel world after ‘Endgame’ is gonna be.”

He added, “When the dust settles, let’s hope that Deadpool lives. That’s kind of ironic, right?”

Of course, even if Leitch is signed on to direct “Deadpool 3,” the question of how Marvel Studios is able to integrate the hard-R sensibilities of the foul-mouthed hero with their brightly colored, family-friendly world? The director says that he has ideas…if he’s chosen.

“I have a lot of ideas but I’m keeping them close to my vest so, if they ever come and I’m grateful enough for them to call, I can share all my crazy ideas,” the director said.

Luckily, for Marvel fans, it would appear that the studio is on the verge of announcing the plans for Phase 4, in the post-‘Endgame’ MCU. Sadly, from most accounts, it would seem as if the Fox properties, including the ‘X-Men’ characters such as Deadpool, are bound to sit on the shelf for several years. But crazier things have happened, and perhaps at San Diego Comic-Con, we’ll finally hear word about when the Merc with a Mouth will make his big-screen return.
