The exorbitantly expensive “Wolfs” comedy crime thriller may have flopped at AppleTV+, but Brad Pitt and George Clooney remain undeterred to reunite for a similar genre. While there’s been talk of an “Ocean’s 14” in the works for now for a while, with Clooney co-writing, the project is finally picking up momentum and seems to have found a director in David Leitch.
Known for directing Pitt in “Bullet Train,” which was surely the entree recommendation from the actor to Clooney, Leitch also has helmed entertaining movies like “The Fall Guy,” “Hobbs & Shaw,” and co-directed the original “John Wick.”

Clooney has co-written the script with his Smokehouse Production partner Grant Heslov (who also wrote and directed on “The Agency” thriller starring Michael Fassbender, which was another Clooney/Heslove/Smokehouse production).
Steven Soderbergh, who directed the previous “Ocean’s” trilogy, said he was out after Bernie Mac died, and he’s stayed true to his word. But if anyone remembers the “Moneyball” drama of 2009—Soderbergh was fired from the project that starred Brad Pitt—well, I’d encourage you to read between the lines.
Pitt and Clooney are expected to star and it’s unclear if ensemble members like Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and Casey Affleck will return. That said, the troupe seemed to have an incredibly joyous time making those three films, and it would not surprise if all of them were back for the ride (though a certain actor with the initials MD is pretty loyal to Soderbergh, so who knows).
The three “Ocean’s” franchise films grossed over $420 million at the domestic box office and a female-fronted spinoff, “Ocean’s 8,” directed by Gary Ross, arrived in 2018. Unfortunately, despite a cast including Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett, the film fizzled at the box office, seemingly killing further editions of that spin-off.
Additionally, an “Ocean’s” prequel starring Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie is in the works, set in Europe in the 1960s, but Clooney surely knew if that project took off, it could kill his “Ocean’s 14,” so you can bet he worked hard to make it happen first. [THR]
