As seen in the teaser trailer, Allen Hughes’ new docuseries “Dear Mama” tells the story of Tupac Shakur and his relationship with his mother, Afeni. Through the use of archival footage and new interviews, we see just how Afeni, a former Black Panther, gave birth to one of the greatest hip-hop icons of all time.

The series comes from director Allen Hughes, who is no stranger to docuseries about hip-hop. His most recent project is the acclaimed series, “The Defiant Ones,” which focuses on Dr. Dre. Hughes is probably best known for his collaborations with his brother, Albert Hughes, on films such as “Menace II Society,” “Dead Presidents,” and “The Book of Eli.”
