‘Dig’: Geraldine Viswanathan Joins Amy Poehler & Hugh Laurie In Archeological Comedy Series At Peacock From ‘Parks & Rec’ Co-Creator

Comedic TV heavyweights Amy Poehler (“SNL,” “Parks & Rec”) and Hugh Laurie (“House,” “Aveune 5”) are getting some extremely cool company on the new series “Dig,” as on-the-rise actress Geraldine Viswanathan is now taking a part in the project hailing from “Parks & Rec” co-creator Mike Schur (reunites Poehler with the creative), who is overseeing the new comedy streaming series.

Deadline revealed the addition to the growing ensemble cast, as the show is an adaptation of Kate Myers‘ bestselling book “Excavation, Dig.” As Poehler will be playing one of four women at the center of the story, “working at an archeological dig in Greece, who are at wildly different crossroads in their lives. When the team uncovers a long-buried secret with the potential to rewrite history, they find themselves at the center of a high-stakes international conspiracy.”

A notable force in the world of TV comedy, Schur was also a writer/producer on the U.S. remake of “The Office,” along with creating/co-creating other shows like “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “The Good Place,” and “A Man On The Inside.”

The role filled by Viswanathan will be Dylan, who, “after a five-year absence, returns to the dig in Greece on a whim to take care of some unfinished business.”

Viswanathan got on maybe folks’ radar after appearing in multiple seasons of the absurdist comedy series “Miracle Workers,” co-starring with Margaret Qualley in Ethan Coen‘s crime capper pic “Drive-Away Dolls,” was seen in the raunchy parent comedy “Blockers,” and earlier in the year showed up in a supporting non-superhero part in Marvel‘s “Thunderbolts,” taking on a role originally meant for Ayo Edebiri.

Poehler recently landed a Golden Globes nomination for the newly created Best Podcast category for her popular celebrity interview podcast called “Good Hang with Amy Poehler.”

We suspect other known and on-the-come-up comedic talent will be getting involved with “Dig,” so stay tuned for those future additions to the call sheet.
