Even though a trailer has been cut, posters been made and a Comic Con push in full swing, rumors are circulating that embattled indie house Overture are quietly shopping’ “Let Me In” to other distributors to try and partner for the still planned October 1st release. The film is a remake of the celebrated vampire flick “Let The Right One In,” stars Chloe Moretz (“Kick-Ass”), Kodi Smit-McPhee (“The Road”), Richard Jenkins and is directed by Matt Reeves (“Cloverfield”).
Overture ran into financial trouble earlier this year, putting a number of projects on hold and were apparently on the verge of a buyout. While that hasn’t happened, the company is still appears to be tight on cash. Anne Thompson reports that apparently, Overture are “short on P & A dollars” and given that the film features no major stars, and is a remake of a horror film that mostly found acclaim with niche audience, it will need a decent campaign to find a mainstream crowd.
Though planned releases this fall of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s “Jack Goes Boating” and the Robert De Niro/Edward Norton thriller “Stone” are set to go, given this bit of news, it remains to be seen how wide the releases will be, and how big a push they will end up receiving. Overture has yet to comment on this latest rumor but we’re sure by the end of the weekend they will address any concerns about the release for ” Let Me In.”
