Hugh Dancy, Kathryn Hahn, More Join The Paul Rudd Comedy, 'My Idiot Brother'

Filming has recently kicked off on the indie comedy “My Idiot Brother,” and to celebrate, we got sent a press release with an official synopsis for the film that also revealed a few new cast members, and as if we weren’t excited about this one already, the new additions are equally strong. Paul Rudd was already in the lead role as a sunny idealist who visits his three sisters and creates chaos in their lives, with the I-want-to-go-to-there trio of Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel and Emily Mortimer as his sisters, and Rashida Jones and Adam Scott also on board.

They’ve now been joined by Hugh Dancy, a fine actor who rarely gets decent parts, Kathryn Hahn, who stole the show as Scott’s wife in “Step Brothers,” veteran Shirley Knight, and British newcomer Janet Montgomery, who has a key role in Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan.” It’s a very strong cast, so we can only assume that the script, by Evgenia Peretz and David Schisgall, is killer. The big question mark is about director Jesse Peretz, a music video helmer (and former bassist for The Lemonheads!), whose credits to date are teaming with Rudd and Romany Malco on the undervalued comedy “The Chateau” and the dreadful Zach Braff vehicle “The Ex.” But with a cast like this one, we’d turn up if McG was directing. Well, maybe not…
