Got a Tip?

Don Cheadle Says Steven Soderbergh Is “Thinking About” Making ‘Ocean’s 14’

If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a million times—Steven Soderbergh is a filmmaker that consistently surprises us. Whether that’s with the use of new technology, a unique filmmaking technique, a new medium, or just a film idea out of left field, Soderbergh never rests on his laurels and is always good for a zig when you think he might zag. And though it seems impossible on paper, it appears the filmmaker is considering yet another film in his ‘Ocean’s’ franchise. At least, according to Don Cheadle, he is.

Speaking to EW, Cheadle was asked about the future of the ‘Ocean’s’ franchise, which featured three Soderbergh-helmed films (“Ocean’s 11,” “Ocean’s 12,” and “Ocean’s 13”) and a recent spinoff (not directed by Soderbergh), “Ocean’s 8.” And though it’s been well past a decade since 2007’s “Ocean’s 13,” it appears that during the filming of the upcoming feature, “No Sudden Move,” Soderbergh spoke with Cheadle about the chance of a new sequel actually happening.

“We were talking about it, and then Bernie [Mac] passed, and very quickly we were like, ‘No, we don’t want to do it,'” said Cheadle. “But I just did a movie with Stephen and he said, ‘I think there may be a way to do it again. I’m thinking about it.’ And it didn’t go much further than that. But I don’t know; I don’t know who all would be in it. I imagine the main group of us would be in. It would be interesting to see.”

For those unaware, the ‘Ocean’s’ franchise features a star-studded cast including folks like George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, and, of course, Don Cheadle. The films each introduce a new heist for Clooney’s team to conquer. As mentioned, Bernie Mac is also a mainstay in the three Soderbergh films, but he passed away in 2008. However, as seen by the casting of “No Sudden Move,” it’s clear that the filmmaker is still able to attract massive stars to his features, and with a new deal with HBO Max, why not ask WarnerMedia to foot the bill for a new ‘Ocean’s’ film since franchise revivals are all the rage?
