Drew Barrymore Officially Out Of The Running For 'Eclipse' Directorial Gig

Who’s directing the third installment of “Twilight” titled “Eclipse”?

Last we heard it was actually not Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona (“The Orphanage”), or at least not officially — though $10 bucks says they eventually come to a deal with him.

The trades evidently jumped the gun and reported he had the gig before blogger Patrick Goldstein spoke directly to Summit Entertainment’s prez who shut that down and clarified: “We’ve met with three or four talented filmmakers and we’ll be meeting with three or four more other candidates before we make any decision. No one has been offered the job.”

Ok, well we’ll play the process of elimination game: someone who is now officially not up for consideration: Drew Barrymore.

“Oh, I wish that I was [directing it],” Barrymore revealed to MTV. “I adore that project and I adore the team that’s making it. And I am very honored to now be a director and going up for other movies and being offered other movies as a director. I’m now an actor/producer/director! How lucky am I!”

Strangely positive, schoolgirl quotes aside, this ostensibly means previously mentioned names like Paul Weitz, James Mangold (“3:10 To Yuma”) and of course Bayona, are still in the mix. That is unless new filmmakers have entered the frame that we all don’t know about. But either way, Barrymore is officially out of the running.
