If you look at the history of “Batman” films on the big screen, there’s always been one major element that hasn’t really been shown—Robin. Now, James Gunn and Matt Reeves are hoping to fix that with the upcoming DC Studios animated film, “Dynamic Duo.”

According to Deadline, DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation are teaming up with Swaybox Studios to work on a new animated film, “Dynamic Duo.” The film is said to tell the story of two Robins, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. What makes the film even more interesting is the fact that Swaybox intends on using a unique style of animation that combines puppetry and live-action in a way that really hasn’t been done before. And as mentioned, Matt Reeves and his production company are also on board to bring this to life.
“I have wanted to make a film with Arthur and Swaybox for many years, and for that film to be ‘Dynamic Duo,’ an incredibly special and unique Batman and Robin story for families, is a dream,” Reeves said.
In comic book lore, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd are the first two characters to don the Robin moniker. Grayson would go on to join the Teen Titans and eventually change into Nightwing. Todd, on the other hand, would be brutally beaten by the Joker and presumed dead for years. Eventually, he would return as the anti-hero, the Red Hood.
It’s important to note that “Dynamic Duo” is not connected to Reeves’ “The Batman” universe. However, it’s unclear if the film is actually connected to Gunn’s DCU. Considering Gunn is trying to create a coherent universe where everything fits together, it would seem as if “Dynamic Duo” might actually be connected to the DCU. But at this point, that’s just speculation.
It’s also unknown when we might see this film arrive in theaters. Animation takes a long time to produce, and it’s unclear how long Swaybox has been working on this film already. But this doesn’t seem like something that will get done in the next year or so.
