Pixar had a rare misfire with year with “Lightyear,” but look for the animation studio to steady its stride with “Elemental,” out in theaters next summer. The 27th Pixar film takes audiences to Element City, where earth, air, fire, and water residents live together.
“Elemental” focuses on two of the city’s residents, Ember and Wade, whose differing ways of approaching life shake up their worldviews.
Here’s an official synopsis for the film, courtesy of Pixar:
The story introduces Ember, a tough, quick-witted and fiery young woman, whose friendship with a fun, sappy, go-with-the-flow guy named Wade challenges her beliefs about the world they live in.
Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie voice Ember and Wade in the film. More of the vocal cast will be announced soon.
Pixar veteran Peter Sohn, who made his directorial debut with 2015’s “The Good Dinosaur,” directs “Elemental.” Brenda Hsueh pens the film’s script.
Despite fundamental differences, Ember and Wade may realize they have more in common than they think in “Elemental.” Catch the movie when it hits theaters exclusively on June 16, 2023. Watch a teaser trailer for the upcoming film below.
