Emma Stone To Star In Upcoming Untitled Project At Universal, Her Husband Dave McCary To Direct

What’s next for Emma Stone after winning her second Best Actress Oscar for “Poor Things“? Deadline reports that one of Hollywood’s hardest-working actresses adds another upcoming film to her busy schedule: an untitled movie at Universal, which sees Dave McCary, her husband, in the directing chair.

Plot details for the feature remain under wraps, but Patrick Kang and Michael Levin co-pen its screenplay. Kang and Levin are supervising producers on NBC and UTV‘s “Young Rock,” which doesn’t mean this project is related, but does speak to the pair’s working relationship. Meanwhile, producers on the projet include Shawn LevyDan Cohen, and Dan Levine through 21 Laps, as well as Stone, McCary, and Ali Herting through their Fruit Tree banner. Universal’s Senior EVP Erik Baiers and Creative Exec Jacqueline Garell oversee the film for the studio.

Stone adds McCary’s film to what’s arguably becoming her career’s most creatively fruitful period. To go along with “Poor Things,” Stone also recently starred in the buzzy Showtime series “The Curse,” and also stars in Yorgos Lanthimos‘ upcoming film “Kinds Of Kindness,” set for a Cannes Film Festival world premiere in May. And further ahead, Stone also stars in Ari Aster‘s “Eddington.” But Stone has also been busy producing films, too. Over the past three years, she’s co-produced two A24 films, “Problemista” and “I Saw The TV Glow,” as well as Jessie Eisenberg‘s past two directing efforts, 2022’s “When You Finish Saving The World” and “A Real Pain,” which had its world premiere at Sundance in January.

McCary helped co-produce Eisenberg’s films and “Problemista,” too, as well as being an executive producer on “The Curse.” And McCary’s upcoming film isn’t his directorial debut either. The ex-“SNL” writer-director made the movie “Brigsby Bear” back in 2017.

As for Kang and Levin, their working relationship goes back even further than “Young Rock.” Over the years, they’ve also worked several other TV series together, including Disney+‘s “Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.,” “Trial & Error,” “Mighty Ducks,” and “Perfect Harmony.” They first met while working as assistants on “How I Met Your Mother.”
