One of the most highly-anticipated seasons of any TV series is about to hit in the first half of 2019. The final season of “Game of Thrones” has fans waiting impatiently, as they speculate endlessly about who will sit atop the Iron Throne. However, no one actually knows what’s going to happen. Well, almost no one.
You see, the cast and crew all know, as the production for the final six episodes has been concluded, and it appears that some members of the Emmy Award-winning series are taking joy in teasing fans with what they’ll experience when they watch the final season.
One of those actors is Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays the once-evil, now-heroic Jamie Lannister in the series. Coster-Waldau has been a fixture on the series since day one, when ‘GoT’ fans were introduced to the character as he…ummm…loved his sister a bit too much.
In a new interview with The Wrap, the actor explains what he felt when he read the final script and how it fares as a conclusion. “I read it, and I wrote [creators] Dan [“D.B.” Weiss] and David [Benioff] and said I don’t think they could have done a better job,” Colster-Waldau said. “I mean, when I read it — I’ve spent so many years working on this and been guessing and trying to figure out how this will end — and when I read it, some of the parts of it I’d get, and other parts of it were just completely shocking and surprising.”
“And it wasn’t, there were none of those horrible — you know shows where it’s a murder mystery and at the very last minute you find out it doesn’t make sense?” he continued. “But here all the pieces fit into this massive jigsaw puzzle.”
What he says in that last quote is the answer to a question that plagues every fan of the series. How the hell is HBO and the creators of ‘Thrones’ going to wrap up one of the most epic stories in all of TV history in a satisfactory way. Well, according to the Kingslayer, they do it in amazing fashion.
He also talked about what made this final season enjoyable to film, and the answer hints at the way the series will wrap up — everyone is finally together, for better or worse. “It’s been wonderful to do this last season,” he said. “Almost all of it was shot in Belfast, so that means even though you haven’t been in the same scenes with them [the entire cast], you’ve seen a lot more people.”
One of those people he shot scenes with, no doubt, is actress Nathalie Emmanuel, aka Missandei, aka Dany’s right-hand-woman. Emmanuel was being interviewed by Hindustan Times, and she dropped some hints and reflected on what fans can expect in the upcoming season.
“I think what we can expect from the final season of ‘GoT’ is just a real push. Like in the last couple of seasons, we have seen the pace of the show increase with the stakes getting higher and higher. There are so many storylines that have to come to conclusion. We have to play them out, so the pace of the show is continuing on that sense,” Emmanuel said. “There are so many characters and stories that haven’t found their conclusion. So, this season is going to be incredibly satisfying for people. It is going to be incredibly exciting and heartbreaking.”
“Exciting and heartbreaking” is how many fans would describe each episode of the series, especially in recent seasons. But, speaking specifically about the finale, the actress said, “I feel like people will have their mind blown when they watch the final one.”
Damn, the final season of “Game of Thrones” can’t come soon enough!
