After the cliffhanger that ended Season 7, “Game of Thrones” fans are dying to see what the show has cooked up for them in the upcoming final season. And with leaks being a problem in the past, HBO and the people behind the series are going to extreme lengths to make sure that none of the upcoming twists and turns get spoiled before they air. Jamie Lannister, aka actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, was recently interviewed and he was able to give fans an idea of just how secretive everything is.
In an interview at Cannes, Coster-Waldau said:
“They’re very very strict. It’s reached a crazy level this year. We actually get the scripts, and then when we’ve shot the scene — and we only have it digitally — and then when you’ve done the scene, it just vanishes. It’s like ‘Mission: Impossible.’ ‘This will self-destruct.’”
And as far as the content of those scripts, the actor is obviously keeping tight-lipped. After almost a decade of being on the show, it appears that the cast of “Game of Thrones” has perfected the art of simultaneously talking about episodes without actually saying anything.
Keeping up with that tradition, Coster-Waldau does talk about how the show ends, and his feelings on the finale. However, don’t expect even the slightest spoiler. “I also know that we end the right way and the show ends on its own terms. When I read the scripts for the last season, I was like, ‘Wow, they really pulled it off.’ It’s one story from season 1 to 9 and it makes sense,” explained the actor.
Okay, so what did we learn? No printed scripts ever existed for this upcoming season. And “Game of Thrones” tells one story over the course of eight (sorry Nikolaj, but there are not nine) seasons. So yeah, not much. But hey, it’s stuff like this that keeps the fire burning until the series ends its run in 2019.
