'Roseanne' Star Sara Gilbert Still "Stands Behind" ABC's Decision To Cancel The Series

You may have noticed that over the weekend, Roseanne Barr went dark on Twitter. That means there were no more conspiracy theories or massive amounts of retweets coming from the now-unemployed comedian. But that doesn’t mean that those affected by her racist tweet have been staying silent. Today, on CBS’ “The Talk,” actress Sara Gilbert spoke more about the controversial end of ABC’s most-watched show “Roseanne.”

“In addition to my statement, I would like to say this has been a very difficult week. A lot of people have been hurt by this. I will say I’m proud of the show we made. This show has always been about diversity, love, and inclusion. And it’s sad to see it end in this way. I’m sad for the people who lost their jobs in the process. However, I do stand behind the decision ABC made,” said Gilbert.

The actress is one of the hosts of “The Talk,” but wasn’t able to discuss the controversy until today since the show was airing reruns last week. Of course, Gilbert was also one of the cast members that Barr had publicly trashed via social media, so it appears that Gilbert isn’t going to start defending the comedian now.

Gilbert is also one of the producers of “Roseanne” that is said to be discussing ways to continue the series without the titular star. That doesn’t mean that any spin-offs are definite, but the way that contracts are structured, ABC has to pay producers and writers for the second season, regardless. Speculation says that any spin-off would probably center around Gilbert’s character.

As mentioned above, Barr is on a self-imposed Twitter break for “a while.” However, last time she quit Twitter, she was back fairly quickly. So one has to assume we’ll be hearing more from Barr sooner than later.
