Pretty soon, we’re going to have to stop referring to Adam Driver as that guy from “Girls.” While, yes, Lena Dunham‘s show has put him on the broader cultural radar, he’s impressed folks like Clint Eastwood (“J. Edgar“), Steven Spielberg (“Lincoln“) and the Coen Brothers (“Inside Llewyn Davis“) enough to land roles in their films. Another director who has happily utilized is Noah Baumbach, giving the actor a nice supporting role in the filmmaker’s utterly charming and completely buoyant “Frances Ha.” And now, they’re going to work together again.
The Wrap reports that Driver is reteaming with Baumbach on his long developing “While We’re Young,” starring Ben Stiller. The movie, which has been in the works for years, follows a Brooklynite twenty-something couple who cross paths with an older, forty-something couple. Stiller will play a documentary filmmaker who — as the New Yorker recently described — “becomes entranced by how lightly the younger man treats the enterprise of creative work.” Driver, obviously, will play one half of the younger couple.
Moreover, an actress previously attached is now back with Naomi Watts in talks to join as well, playing Stiller’s wife. Amanda Seyfried is in the mix to play Driver’s partner.
This isn’t the first incarnation of movie as Gerta Gerwig, James Franco and Jesse Eisenberg have all been linked in the past, in versions that never got off the ground. But both Stiller and producer Scott Rudin have stuck with the movie, as we reported last month, production is gearing up to go this fall. Between this and another little indie he’s completed with Gerwig, there’s a whole lotta Baumbach coming our way.
