'42' Star Chadwick Boseman Shortlisted For 'Black Panther'; Kevin Feige Suggests 'Daredevil' A Long Way Off

nullOkay, here are some geeky, comic movie updates for your afternoon. So strap in, get ready and let’s start some speculatin’….

First up, even though Marvel seems to be in no particular hurry to make a “Black Panther” movie — Marvel‘s co-president Louis D’Esposito has suggested the character’s backstory alone is a difficult cinematic hurdle — it appears they may be toying with the idea or at least entertaining the notion. Latino Review reports that “42” star Chadwick Boseman is on a shortlist of actors to play the role, because of course he is. The baseball movie is a big hit and while the film itself is a bit pedestrian, he shines in the role showing great charisma and physicality. And hey, whaddya know, those are things a superhero leading man needs to have!

Of course, there are no offers or anything close to that, so for all we know, this is just a doodle on someone’s desk somewhere. That said, Boseman is right in the Marvel wheelhouse of a rising young actor that they can mould into a tentpole star (see: Chris Hemsworth). So file it under maybe and this probably wouldn’t happen until Phase Three anyway (unless they’re bringing the character in through “Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” or something), so sit tight for the moment.

Meanwhile, another character fans are longing to see may also be collecting dust for a while. Though Marvel won back the rights to the character Daredevil from Fox, where Joe Carnahan‘s ’70s style, gritty take wasn’t greenlit (watch the sizzle reel here), honcho Kevin Feige doesn’t seem to be in any particular rush on this one. “There comes a time in contracts where, if a studio is done making the movies, [the characters] come home,” he said to EW about Daredevil. “That doesn’t mean we’re going to make another movie. But it means they’re back in the fold, which is where we want them to be.”

So, this is all a big MAYBE. Thoughts, opinions? You know where to go…..
