Got a Tip?

‘Godzilla & The Titans’: Kurt & Wyatt Russell Join Apple’s Monsterverse Series

Following the success of last year’s “Godzilla vs. Kong”— earning $470 million during the heat of the pandemic— Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise seems to be at full health. “Godzilla Vs. Kong,” director Adam Wingard is set to return to direct a follow-up film coming to theaters in 2024 with Dan Stevens (“The Guest”) as one of the leads and a live-action spinoff series at Apple TV+ that is about to begin shooting soon.

Speaking of that series, “Godzilla & The Titans,” a significant casting addition has been announced. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt Russell had captured roles in this upcoming Apple streaming series. It will mark the first time the Russells have worked together.

The series hails from Chris Black (“Star Trek: Enterprise”) and Matt Fraction (“Hawkeye”) co-created the series, with Black serving as its showrunner. Director Matt Shakman of “WandaVision” and “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” is set to direct the first episodes as he’s also attached to helm a supposed fourth “Star Trek” movie at Paramount.

The father/son duo joins a cast consisting of Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Kiersey Clemons, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski.

More actors are expected to be announced as the show might skew more human-centric than most have assumed. “Titans” will take place after the events of the first “Godzilla” movie and focuses on Monarch, the organization that tracks and documents Titans.

“It will follow a family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.”

Warner Bros. has set the release date for the next untitled film for March 15, 2024, while it’s unclear when the series will arrive at Apple. We’ll have to wait to see if the series will eventually connect with upcoming feature films or stay as their own standalone events.
